INTERVIEW - Luciana

Whilst we've been in LA doing pop business, it would of been rude not to catch up with our friend and pop lover Luciana for a chat about her new single...

She is the Queen of electro and still delivering hit after hit. Recently releasing a new smash EDM track Arcadia with top DJ Hardwell and Joey Dale, we chat about the single, wardrobe malfunctions, working the music business and celebrity dinners. It's the SnapCacklePop interview with Luciana..!

Welcome back to SnapCacklePop Luciana , we've missed you in Australia, what has been happening?
OMG ( that's modern for oh my God!!!),  so much is happening right now for me, firstly I've been puppy training little Ronnie. He's Alf's blood brother from another litter! That has been a journey but he's adorable. Did you mean music? [Laughs] I've been in the studio writing a lot. It's a process, but expect some big tunes from me very soon.

We heard you appeared in Chicago last weekend and there was an incident with the straw dress , what happened.
#thelaststraw. Yes, indeed, the straw dress has seen some serious action. That night the zip gave way, one too many pastas maybe ( she lets out a raucous laugh). I felt something give and I had to rush outside to get myself together!!! It could have been worse, if it was the bottom half of the dress I'd be standing on stage with my gusset out for all to see. [Laughs]
We heard you performed Arcadia , your new single with Hardwell and Joey Dale, tell us about it.
I'm so proud of this project, they are both so young and enthusiastic, I felt like their mum! When I heard the track, I just knew it was going to be an anthem. How cool is it that two young hipsters want my vocals. I'm over the moon with it.

How was it working with the worlds number 1 upcoming DJ.
It was awesome. You just know when something is golden. They have so much talent and energy, you can't help but be inspired. I'm so grateful we got the chance to collaborate.

Hardwell has some amazing stage show, can we expect anything similar from you in the near future?
My venues range from bars to stadiums to clubs, so of course I need to be able to make each work. My backing visuals are constantly being updated
by my creative partner David Burgoyne, so you can always expect 'fabulous' from my shows.

Talking about being elaborate can we expect a 'Miley Cyrus' wrecking ball attention grabbing sequence any time time soon?
I'd love to make an entrance 'scooping' like a dog with worms!!! [Laughs] I think that woud be funny. Seriously, I'm gonna leave that stuff to Miley!!!

Luciana, you've been in the business a long while, how different is it for new artists these days to break into the business?
The internet has made it a completely different ball game and there is no comparison between now and 20 years ago. It's all about social media now. I wouldn't want to start again now, it was more organic in my day.

As a new artist , what would you find challenging about breaking in now?
There is so much image criticism these days, too much emphasis on the body and looks . Talent has dropped down the list, which is crazy! I'd be challenged to be a size '0', I like my cake too much [Laughs]

Do you have any advice for new artists ?
Have a plan B!!!! Seriously, be nice, undemanding and considerate to every one who helps make you look good.

Any plans to return to Australia, we miss you?
I love Australia, no plans right now but hopefully I will be back soon .

Who are you currently working with right now.
I'm writing a lot for other artists including Maya Veronica. I just finished something with Carl Ryden ( U B The Bass ) which I am tres excited about.

What does the rest of 2014 hold for Luciana?
Lipstick, lashes and hopefully less wardrobe malfunctions. I'm starting to write a column for Left magazine too. So keeping on being creative and live gigs. It changes all the time so I am keeping an open mind.

So you know the score, here are your big 5 SCP silly questions
Bring it...!

Apart from the dress incident last week, what is another show related accident you can share?
Accident you say?!?! I'd have to take you back to London Pride 2006. It was raining, no surprise there and the stage was wet. I was wearing 6 inch red heels and basically slipped and fell off my shoes. At least the crowd cheered.

If you hosted a celebrity dinner who would you invite and why?
I would invite Debbie Harry, Christie Hynde and David Bowie. Wouldn't that be a trip!!

What the craziest thing a fan has ever sent you in the mail?
A wooden leg! [Laughs] Seriously thought I haven't had anything sent. Sorry for being boring.

Being Queen of electro, if you were THE Queen, what would be the first thing you do?
I would hire a personal trainer, have someone work out my every meal and ban chocolate. Thats after I sorted global peace and world equality of course.

What's the craziest party trick you have ever witnessed?
A friend of mine can scale walls like Spiderman. He often can be found on the ceiling at parties [Laughs]

Luciana's features on new single by Hardwell and Joey Dale and is available on iTunes now..!
