INTERVIEW - Kim Cesarion

On his recent promotional tour to Australia we caught up with the latest Swedish export singer songwriter Kim Cesarion...
After placing this handsome chap on our One To Watch list following the release of his debut album Undressed, we just had to chat to the singer about his quest for pop fame, the highs and lows of making his album, songs about girls and getting Undressed on a desert island. Its the SnapCacklePop Interview with Kim Cesarion..!

Hi Kim, welcome to back to Australia...
Thanks man

So you were here before to shoot your video for I Love This Life, it must be slightly colder this time round?
Yes slightly but its just like a Swedish summer [Laughs]

Firstly can we say great debut single in Undressed, very impressive and congratulations on a very solid debut album...
Thank you very much, it's very much appreciated that it is being so well received.

To any pop fans who have been living under a rock and not heard of your music, how would you describe it?
I would probably say its a little bit of a fusion of everything. It's definitely pop music, but you can hear different influences from different genres. A little bit of R&B , bit of soul and some other elements thrown in there for good measure. We let the music change and yet have my voice bring everything together.

And you have a very impressive falsetto and range on you sir. You must be compared to other pop stars like Prince and Fine Young Cannibals. Have you had those comparisons?
Who are the Fine Young Cannibals?

They were big 80's band very soulful funk with a big range
OMG, I will have to check them out

We'll forgive you as you were not born when they were popular. So do you get comparisons?
Yeah of course due to my falsetto , which is funny as there are a bunch of artists with the same style. It might be as I listened Prince when I was growing up, however I also listened to D'Angelo, Stevie Wonder, James Brown, Marvin Gaye and Usher. I've also listened to a lot of reggae.

You can hear all those influences throughout your album and feels like a roller coaster of a genres. Is it important for you to show your diversity as a pop artist?
Of course. I want to show my fans I can do different things, however they still need to know its me. I wanted to it be a cohesive album, which I believe I have.

You certainly have and its a very strong debut album. What were the highs and lows of making the album?
The lows were having to wait to release the album. There is a process you have to go through as a artist to create an LP, from writing the songs, producing the song etc however I wanted it out as fast as I could. [Laughs]
The highs has just been able to create music without any stress. There was no real pressure being the first album. I've been working on it for a long time and I had a bunch of songs ready before I signed. So it feels like an eternity since I first began.

So what are your fav tracks on the album?
Boy, its like picking your favourite child. [Laughs] When U're High for some reason, as it is not just about the story but about the work behind the song, how we built the track and where the final track ended up.

The album also has a lot about relationships...
Yes it does. Some people have said the album is about sex which is wrong, as means you haven't listened to the album. Most the songs are about relationships and the guy not getting the girl or a relationship not working out. One story is actually about my own life.

Oh which song?
[Laughs] Thats for me to know. [Laughs] All I will say it's a very honest song and has a great story. Try figure it out. Overall I want my music to speak to people on personal level that they can really connect too.

So finally here are you Big 5 questions...

You are from the pop breeding country of Sweden, how come you guys make such great pop music?
Because we are Swedish [Laughs]

Do you attend a pop school in Sweden?
[Laughs] No! I don't know why we make good pop, we are just very musical folk.

Who would you love to do a duet with?
It would be cool to do something with Bob Marley

If you had a super power what would it be and why?
Definitely fly.

If you were deserted on a desert island, what 3 things would you take with you?
My Spotify, the sun and some company for great conversation and someone to get Undressed with [Laughs]

Kim, thank you for your time. Congratulations on an impressive debut album and good luck with your rise to pop fame.
