Before we announce the runner up and winner, we must note that Britney Spears' Work Bitch, Katy Perry's Roar, Lady Gaga's Applause and Miley Cyrus' Wrecking Ball were all of much debate for this award, however we at SCP HQ felt there were more deserving winners. And this year "let's hear it for the boys"..! Therefore...
Wake Me Up
Though every track nominated deserves to win, we felt Avicii has had an amazing year and his debut single Wake Me Up, featuring American soul singer Aloe Blacc set the charts alight peaking at #1 in 22 countries. Not bad for a debut! It's EDM, it has elements of folk music like Mumford & Sons and has a massive sing along chorus, making this track a massive summer anthem of 2013..!
Not easy to just pick one, especially after Miley Cryus video for Wrecking Ball has had over 300million views. Yet if you took away the shocking video, you'd have just a power house ballad. The Single Of a the Year, is the track that provides the soundtrack to 2013 and that can only mean Daft Punk's Get Lucky featuring smooth vocals from Pharrell.
French house music duo brought back old school disco funk to the charts this year, in the lead single from their fourth studio album, Random Access Memories. Co-written by Williams and Nile Rodgers, the track is not just about sexual chemistry, it's about the fortune of connecting with someone. Get Lucky is definitely the track of summer, the track of 2013, the track that is too DAMM funky it has been constantly played thought the year as our Friday song at SCP HQ to get us in the mood for the weekend.
The single reached the top ten in the music charts of over 32 countries, selling more than 8 million copies and the song is nominated for both Best Pop Duo/Group Performance and Record of the Year at the 56th Annual Grammy Awards.
