Album Review - Little Boots - Nocturnes

We have been fans of English electro pop singer-songwriter and DJ Victoria Hesketh, aka Little Boots since her debut Hands blew us away in back in 2009. She teased us with new music in her EP Illuminations however was keen to see the new dance direction the singer said would take for her highly-anticipated sophomore studio album, Nocturnes...
Well, the wait was over this week, with Ms Boots serving up the brilliant LP full of synthpop nu-disco tracks that we must applaud. Each track is exactly as the press release stated;

“a powerful record of irresistible hooks and stunning songwriting that celebrates 90s house, seventies disco and futuristic electronics while maintaining the magic of classic pop.”

We couldn’t agree more. Hesketh and producer Tim Goldsworthy, deliver a dance album mixing upbeat disco tracks like Beat Beat, Satellites and recent single Broken Record (still on repeat at SCP HQ) along with some intimate deep trance tracks like Strangers and the brilliant Motorway. This record certainly shows a maturity and confidence to the pop singer, that proves she’s a dance-pop songstress not to be messed with!

SCP find it hard to fault this album and have already put it on the short list for pop album of the year. Nocturnes is available on iTunes now..!
