We first caught glimpse of Laura Mvula when she featured on The Graham Norton Show a few weeks ago and have done some pop research. Well the nominee for the 2013 BRITs Critics’ Choice Award and included in the coveted BBC Sound of 2013 longlist, is releasing of her highly anticipated debut album, Sing To The Moon on 15th March 2013...
Described as “The Voice of 2013” by The Evening Standard, the classically trained, singer-songwriter’s music fuses orchestral soul with velvety harmonies and emotional vocals giving nods to Nina Simone, George Gershwin and Björk amongst others.
A graduate from the Birmingham Conservatoire with a degree in composition, the 26-year-old is a unique collison of her Caribbean background and formal music.
Laura started writing songs on her laptop while working as a supply teacher in a Birmingham secondary school, after deciding teaching wasn't for her, she returned to her love of music. Now, with some incredible live performances and a praised EP, released in November last year, under her belt, 2013 looks set to be an incredible year for her.
There’s something special about this young lady from Birmingham. Laura’s debut single, Green Garden taken from her debut album is an uplifting track which infuses percussive chimes painted with enchanting harmonies - a unique sound that has wowed us at SCP HQ and been on repeat all day. We kid you not.
Check out Green Garden and listen out for more of this young lady over 2013, as she certainly has a new fresh sound and definitely one to watch..!
