And the winner is...
It’s hard to deny that Calvin Harris has had a great year. Producing brilliant track after track, then landing all his hits in the fantastic new album 18 Months, its certainly has been Mr. Harris’s year. The year started touring with Rihanna on the European leg of her Loud Tour and then slamming this years Sydney Mardi Gras Party in March. Releasing singles Bounce featuring Kelis and Feel So Close back in 2011, he returned to releasing cracking singles such as Let’s Go featuring Ne-Yo, We’ll Be Coming Back featuring fellow DJ/Producer Example and the fifth singles Sweet Nothing featuring Florence Welch of Florence and the Machine. Packing all his hits in his long overdue third album 18months, the DJ collaborated with further popstars including Tinie Tempah, Dizzee Rascal and Ellie Goulding. Speaking of the album, "I'm going for pretty epic-sounding dance records. I guess the whole sound has just moved on in terms of production as I've got a new studio and some new gear to make the sounds I wasn't able to make before." We couldn’t agree more Mr Harris, the album is brilliant and its been an amazing year, hence being awarded our SCP King of Pop 2013.
Home grown Australian talent Guy Sebastian has done us proud this year from mentoring Samantha Jade to winning X-Factor and releasing a brilliant album Armageddon, which produced the 7 times platinum selling single Battle Scars, which is also up for SNAP Single Of The Year. Great year Mr Sebastian, well done.
Ok, we have to admit, our view on the Bieber has changed this year. Before this year, we found him slightly annoying, however this year we have learned to love the little popstar after producing more grown up pop music, thats fun, edgy and damm right catchy. It started with the release of Boyfriend, then the brilliant As Long As You Love Me and collaborating with Nicki Minaj on Beauty and The Beat, it certainly was a new sound from the Bieber which certainly made like him more. Well done Bieber. B+ for you in Pop School this year.
