New Single Alert - Mariah Carey - Triumphant Feat. Rick Ross & Meek Mill

There are many that say there are three Mariah Careys. The first, original Mariah had amazing Pop albums like Music Box, Emotions, Daydream and of course, her self titled debut album. All of these albums sold in the millions and spawned many many number one singles and top 10 tracks. The original Mariah appealed to almost all, from Grandmothers to teenagers and everyone in between.

Then the second Mariah Carey came along with the release of Butterfly in 1997. Whilst the lead single Honey did well there was no where near the brilliance of her previous work in that album, or the following albums Rainbow, Glitter and Charmbracelet. Especially after the flop that was Glitter, many wrote off Mariah and we at SCP also lamented the loss of the original Mariah that we loved so dearly.

Then Mariah had a resurgence - The third Mariah released The Emancipation Of Mimi which brought her back to the top of the charts with a sound that combined the first two Mariahs and led to number ones like We Belong Together, It's Like That & Shake It Off. It looked like she was back on top again but...

..it wasn't to last. For the next two albums E=MC2 & Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel really didn't do well in comparison with Obsessed and Touch My Body the only real hits from the albums. Then she diverted - she put the critics back in their box, not through singing but acting, giving a stellar performance in the movie Precious as a social worker.

It's been almost three years since her last original album Memoirs and many have been looking forward to seeing which Mariah would come back. She's signed on for American Idol as a judge and to co-incide with this she's released her new single Triumphant. Which Mariah do you think has released the single? The first Pop Mariah, the second R&B/Rap Mariah, or the third, a combination of the two? Sadly it's the second. We thought it would be, with rappers Rick Ross and Meek Mill as the guest vocals. We almost hear more of them than we do of Mariah in the track.

We wanted to love this track - we really did but it's only OK. We long for the days of Dreamlover, Emotions, Vision Of Love and One Sweet Day but we think they're long gone. You may disagree with us - leave us a comment if you do, but in the meantime have a listen to Triumphant below and decide for yourself..!
