Album Review - Paloma Faith - Fall From Grace

Following up the brilliant Do You Want the Truth or SomethingBeautiful? Paloma Faithhas released her sophomore album with AllFrom Grace. With the second studio album the  English singer-songwriter has teamed up with producer Nellee Hooper, whopreviously worked with artists such as Madonna,Björk, Massive Attack, and Gwen Stefani. However in amarket where power vocals is owned by Adele and the music industry has been inudatedwith Amy Winehouse clones, can Paloma stand on her own and has the singer beenable to deliver once again?

Paloma may fall under the Soul and Jazz genreand is compared to the late Amy Winehouse, yet the singer has a jazzy growl in her voice anddifferent quirky style that makes her stand on her own and not in ashadow. Take the album's leadsingle Picking Up the Pieces thatis pure power vocals and sings about "...the issues of being in arelationship with someone who is still recovering from a previous relationshipwith another person. It is a song about self-doubt and insecurity." Itspassionate, moving, has honest reflective lyrics and epic builds throughout thetrack that gives power ballad a new meaning..! The track became Faith's highestcharting single to date and set the scene for the theme of the album. 30 Minute Love Affair is synth-pop affair whilstBlack & Blue is another beautifulballad showing the singers jazzy growl.
Serving up more funkier jazz numbers are the upbeat tracks  Blood, Sweat & Tears, Freedom and the lead single Picking Up The Pieces, the album serves up more ballads that show grown up pop with depth with beautiful melodies and honest lyrics like seen on Agony.

Overall the album works with its honesty and ability to channel her soul jazz inspirations of Etta James and Billie Holiday, with song that sing of loves, sadness and relationships. Though sometimes over sung the album is beautifully constructed and has been a good move for the singer on her sophomore album.

If you like Adele, Amy Winehouse orDuffy then you will love Paloma Faith..!
