Introducing… Barry Southgate

We were delighted when we randomly got introduced to Mr. Barry Southgate and we think you will be too!  Originally from South Africa, this singer/song writer and dancer has been compared to the likes of Bruno Mars and Jason Mraz with his soulful R&B infused pop music and has released his debut EP Epitome.

Surrounded by music since a young age with his family all being musically inclined, the singer first got a taste of fame by performing with singing/dance group Jireh back in 2003. He then was a judges favorite on season two of Australian Idol reaching the semi finals competing against Ricki-Lee Coulter and Anthony Callea. He was chosen as the only non Wildcard contestant to perform at the show’s grand finale at the Sydney Opera House which is why the singer may look familiar our Oz readers!

From then on, the virtual unknown singer was in demand and went on to work with some of Australia’s finest artists, including Guy Sebastian, Stan Walker, Delta Goodrem and PauliniHowever, now is about to step out on his own merit with his first, solo project in releasing his 5 track EP Epitome. The first single Don’t You Think? is a playful love song with an island vibe.
He also has his own "movement" in the BCS Movement which stands for Bring Change Somewhere. The singer describes it as "My hope is that it inspires you in some way to make a positive difference & help someone wherever you are – whatever your circumstance, no matter what your idea of “change” looks like. It could be a smile, a word of encouragement, financial help during a tough time, a gift… Whatever you feel to do.
It really makes no difference how simple or radical your expression of it, because change is still change"
The EP is full of tracks that demonstrate this talented singers style and eclectic representation of Southgate’s love of many genres, ranging from pop, rock and soul to gospel, country and classical, including the very personal R&B infused ballad track Against The Wall.
Check out Barry Southgate's website today or get his EP Epitome which is available on iTunes now.
