Etta James Dies at 73!

Sad news reaches us today at SCP HQ that the well respected and admired Etta James has passed away at the age of 73. Etta was know for her powerful earthy and emotional voice which lit up such hits as The Wallflower, Something's Got a Hold on Me and her brilliant signature hit At Last.

The six times Grammy Award winner, including Best Jazz Vocal Performance for the album Mystery Lady and lifetime achievement was such a diverse singer spanning a variety of music genres including blues, rhythm and blues, rock and roll, soul, gospel and jazz, Etta is in both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the Blues Hall of Fame.

Beyonce played Etta in the movie Cadillac Records  a fictionalized account of the rise and fall of Chess Records.

Her manager has said that the cause was complications of leukemia. Ms. James, had been undergoing treatment for some time for a number of conditions, including leukemia and dementia.

Our hearts go out to Ms James family in this time of sadness.
