Pete's Pop Picks

Kay - My Name Is Kay

Self described as the 'most interesting person in the world' Kay is the newest Pop star to emerge from Canada and she's got some big support behind her. Co-Written by OneRepublic's Ryan Tedder and Ryan Bogart who is behind some of the biggest hits of Britney Spears and Beyonce, My Name Is Kay is extremely catchy, poppy and fun. It will draw the inevitable comparisons with The Ting Ting's hit song That's Not My Name, and it evens sounds a little like it but this is one great Pop song and deserving of the Pete's Pop Pick of the week!

Childish Gambino - Heartbeat

In the SCP offices we had The Late Show With David Letterman on in the background the other day when something caught our attention. A young man who looks like he's 15 (but is actually 28) was singing on screen and the song was amazing! Turns out his name is Childish Gambino - an appropriate name - and the song was called Heartbeat. Childish Gambino is the musical stage name of Donald McKinley Glover who is one talented individual, also being a comedian, writer and actor on NBC series CommunityHeartbeat is one very cool Rap/R&B/Pop song which is beautifully produces and Childish Gambino's vocals and rap, perfectly suited. No video yet but have a listen below!

Alex Day - Forever Yours
Essex in England has been the birthplace of some very talented and beautiful people. Jamie Oliver, Jamie Cullum, Alison Moyet, Maggie Smith, Russell Brand and one SCP writer are just a few examples of the talent pool from Essex. One name to add to that list now is Alex Day, who is becoming very well known for his YouTube clips and now as a musician. He is the first unsigned artist to hit the Top 4 of the official UK charts on the strength of this song Forever Yours. This is Brit Pop at it's best - fun, involving and unique. There's no official clip but Alex has made this fun video to go with the song. Will he stay unsigned for much longer? We don't think so!
