Pete's Pop Picks

Danny Fernandes - Hit Me Up

Back in 2002 Shawn Desman had a big hit with Get Ready – this funky pop track hit the charts around the world but then he dropped off the scene. Shawn Desman however was born Shawn Fernandes – and Danny Fernandes is Shawn’s little brother – it seems music runs in the family! Danny’s been playing showcases in clubs in Europe since leaving school and has opened for Akon & Sean Kingston when they toured Canada. Releasing several singles in the past with reasonable success he’s about to hit the big time with this pop dance SMASH! Hit Me Up is one of the best dance tracks i’ve heard in ages, and he’s roped in Mariana’s Trench lead singer Josh Ramsay and rapper Belly to help him out. Hit Me Up has a catchy chorus with a very simple yet effective verse and is beautifully produced. Check out the video for the Pop Pick of the week below!

Carly Rae Jepsen - Call Me Maybe
It seems like the Idol franchise is giving way to The X Factor and The Voice across the globe but occasionally Idol still coughs up a gem of an artist. Carly Rae Jepsen is one of them. She appeared on Canadian Idol back in 2007 and did well getting to the Top 5 but getting no further. Since then she’s been working hard on her music and Call Me Maybe is the fruit of her labour. An upbeat pop song, Carly Rae makes great use of strings in this catchy number that’s bound to catch on – Call Me Maybe is already getting lots of airplay in Canada & the States. We’re waiting on the official video but until then have a listen to Call Me Maybe here!

Nause - Made Of
Sweden and Pop go together like cheese and biscuits – whatever they have in the water there breeds amazing pop and dance musicians and Nause is one of them. A duet of DJ’s from Stockholm they started out DJ’ing in clubs before branching out to make their own music. Made Of is their debut single which is getting lots of club play in Europe right now. Destined to make dance compilations everywhere Made Of and Nause are a group to watch!
