R.E.M Announce break up!!

American rock band R.E.M. have announced their break up today after being together in the music business for 31 years.

Since 1980 were one of the first popular alternative rock bands, R.E.M. gained early attention due to Peter Buck's ringing, arpeggiated guitar style and Michael Stipe's indecipherable lyrics. R.E.M. releasing its their first single, Radio Free Europe, in 1981. Since then singer Stipe, guitarist Buck, bassist Mike Mills and drummer Bill Berry, have delivered hit after hit, including Losing My Religion, Nightswimming, Everybody Hurts and Man On The Moon,

Shocking their millions of fans worldwide, the band put out this official statement on their website:

"To our Fans and Friends: As R.E.M., and as lifelong friends and co-conspirators, we have decided to call it a day as a band. We walk away with a great sense of gratitude, of finality, and of astonishment at all we have accomplished. To anyone who ever felt touched by our music, our deepest thanks for listening."

Frontman Michael Stipe has confirmed that the split has been amicable "though it wasn't an easy decision to come to".

Stipe added:  

"A wise man once said -- 'the skill in attending a party is knowing when it's time to leave.' We built something extraordinary together. We did this thing. And now we're going to walk away from it. I hope our fans realize this wasn't an easy decision; but all things must end, and we wanted to do it right, to do it our way."

 Just releasing their last studio album Collapse Into Now back in March 2011, many fans, like SCP will be saddened by this news.

In honor of the band who had released fifteen albums through their time together, we salute you and everything you have done together. Good luck with your next adventures gents. Love SCP. xx
