New Video Alert - Zowie - Shake It

If you haven’t jumped on the Zowie bandwagon yet, where have you been? The New Zealand-born singer has delivered us this electro-pop slice of heaven the other week and delivers us this awesome catchy pop track full of synths and big beats! She has now debuted her video for her latest single Smash It  an interview was featured on our friends at Check out the video and interview below!

1. In three words, how would you describe your sound?
Manic, Cheeky, Rhythmically-tastic!
2. You're known to play drums, guitar and sing – which is your favourite one and why?
Drumming! It's what I majored in at college in Auckland and it's my main love. There is just something about driving a beat and rhythms which is really exciting to me.
3. Obviously you're getting some electro-pop comparisons – who's the most flattering you've had so far?
The comparison to Peaches is definitely flattering. Gwen Stefani I've had a few times as well, which is flattering too. However there isn't a bigger compliment to me than - "I've never heard anything like this before" - that's the best!
4. Who's your favourite musical act to have worked with or toured with so far?
We toured with Katy Perry all around Australia and New Zealand which was an amazing experience - with an amazing crew of people! I learnt a lot on those shows. Playing shows with The Kills and Peaches was also fantastic!
5. And last but not least, where can we see you perform live next?
My next show in Australia is at Fat As Butter festival in Newcastle, and in November I'm going to play shows with Strange Talk in Melbourne, Sydney and Ballarat, as well as some club shows around the country.

Girls Aloud Watch

Girls Aloud watch is back! As we are approaching 2012 and GA's expected reunion, we searched the pop web for news of our fav brit girl band!

Well, top news is that Nicola Roberts released her debut solo album Cinderella’s Eyes. We are currently listening on constant replay at SCP HQ to bring you our verdict, however according to a report in The Sun, the stress of making the album made her ill! Being a “perfectionist”, she refused for anything but the best for her solo record and picked to work with top producers Dimitri Tikovoi, Diplo, Dragonette, and Joseph Mount and we can already confirm the hard work and dedication shows on the new album. Check out her talking out the her first album and single!

Two news items about Cheryl Cole at the minute, first is that Taylor Lautner has a crush on her! Lucky cow!

Also Cheryl is upsetting Victoria Beckham be jumping on her band wagon in the fashion stakes. Cole told Grazia recently that 'I saw Victoria on a plane recently and she said how exciting it is to be a designer' continuing saying 'I think it's brilliant what she's done. I'd love to do what she's doing. Her New York Fashion Week collection was my favourite,'

However its put Posh Spice nose out of joint as its reported 'Now she feels as though Cheryl's trying to piggy-back on all of her hard work,' with Heat Magazine divulging that Victoria has 'confidence issues,' aggravated by the fact that Cheryl is 'younger and very beautiful.'

We’ll keep you posted if it comes to a ‘Hand bags at dawn’ situation! Well kinda we hope it does!

Kimberley Walsh is stepping out in a new direction after taking on the role of Princess Fiona in Shrek The Musical! The 29 year old dressed in green, red wig and tiara looks amazing as she prepare to take over the part on 5th October. Check out the picture below.

Sarah Harding has split from her fiancé Tom Crane after dating for four years! Saying she is “excited and scared about life since splitting from Tom”

Saying to Contactmusic "I`m excited, scared ... I`m ready to take another leap. I`m entering a whole new chapter and it`s scary. Hopefully the best is yet to come. I feel a little more at ease with what`s going on in my life. I know where my career`s at. I know what I want out of life," Harding said.

We hope you are surrounding yourself with friends and laughter Sarah.

Finally, there has been little noise from final band member Nadine Coyle apart from her updates on Facebook, so we will end on news that the Girls Aloud reunion to mark their tenth anniversary won’t be just a celebration of ten years in the industry however also a farewell tour as a band! According to Daily Star Sunday the girls will reunite for a three-week tour of the UK, ending their road trip with a gig at Wembley Stadium!

All we have to say at SCP is WFT!

They can’t do this to us!  You can’t promise a comeback then take it away with farewell tour! We hope this is just a myth otherwise SCP will be sulking!

How can they end, look how fabulous they are below! Love SCP xx

Meh Moment in Pop - New Boyz - Better With The Lights Off feat. Chris Brown

Remember when Cher released Believe, it has that effect to distort the human voice when pitch is raised or lowered significantly. Well that effect is called Auto-Tune!

Many pop stars use this audio processor to allow singers to perform apparently perfectly tuned vocal tracks without needing to sing in tune. Some use it well, like Cher in Believe, some blend it well to complement their style of music like The Black Eyed Peas, however there are some that just fail miserably, like New Boyz.

Hip hop artists New Boyz have released their new video, Better With The Lights Off and  it’s used throughout this whole song and really it does the song no favours! Enlisting the help of Chris Brown – another Auto-Tune exponent, the song displays all the usual R&B/Pop traits, however the song is lost in the computer editing suite and any juicy pop goodness it had, is lost with it. Have a listen and decide yourself, however we find this a bit Meh!

So the UK charts are always a plethora of genres, styles and pop delights. Lets check out the UK movers and shakers this week, thanks to the Radio One Charts!

Nicola Roberts - Lucky Day
On the release of her new album Cinderella's Eyes on Monday, it was nice to see the Girls Aloud singer enter the top 40. The Stephen Agnes directed video for Lucky Day was filmed in New York where they wasn’t able to play the track on the street during production, so the Beat Of My Drum singer had to wear an ear piece with the track playing, of which she stated people were staring at as she was jumping around on the set with no music playing so people did not understand what she was doing! Well, who wouldn't stare at someone skipping and miming words down the street, however we are loving you right now Nicola, as we just got your album! Check out the video here

New Single Alert - Taylor Dayne -- Floor On Fire

Normally at SCP when a new single is released we spend some time introducing the artist, but Taylor Dayne needs no introduction! The Diva responsible for the hits Love Will Lead You Back and I’ll Be Your Shelter in the 90’s is BACK! And in a big way! Floor On Fire is her brand new single and it’s hot! A dance floor anthem to be, it exhibits the usual Taylor Dayne vocals with a great beat and killer “Oh ew oh ew oh ew” chorus. We’re waiting to see how great the video is – we’re imagining a lot of gold spandex and sequins – but we’re sure it’ll be fab! Check out a snippet below!

New Video Alert - AQUA - Playmate To Jesus

We must say the return of AQUA has really surprised us! Not that they reformed, more that their new material is a more mature offering from the band. How R U Doing was the lead single from their forthcoming album Megalomania with a euro pop dance beat, which had the SCP office jumping! Now releasing Playmate To Jesus which is a uptempo ballad with the set in a haunted looking house that has the band get in touch with their Goth side! We must say lead singer Lene looks stunning. Check out the video below.

One To Watch - Kat DeLuna

U.S. Born of Dominican heritage, upcoming Pop Icon Kat DeLuna has had some pretty big hits over the past few years yet she’s still relatively unknown. Having the vocal range of a Soprano, Kat DeLuna is a natural born talent with a real grasp for performance and her videos show that. Born in New York, but moving to the Dominican Republic when young, Kat had music in her blood performing on stage capturing in the ear of Latin Grammy winning Milly Quezada who mentored the young star. Moving back to New York at age 14, Kat enrolled in Newark Arts school where she fell in love with the music of Aretha Frankin and Billie Holliday.

Signing with Epic Records in 2006, Kat began her Pop assault with hits such as – Whine UpCalling You and Run The Show with Busta Rhymes. Her success, while subdued has been worldwide, with success in Belgium, Australia and Romania and two albums to-date, 9 Lives and Inside Out. The Jennifer Lopez smash On The Floor was also accused of plagiarising Kat’s single Party O’Clock!

Check out two of her previous hits below...

Calling You

Whine Up feat Elephant Man
We featured Kat on SCP a few months ago, however Kat DeLuna’s new single Latin vibed Drop It Low is HOT and this girl really works up a sweat in this highly choreographed video which looks like it includes the entire cast of every episode of So You Think You Can Dance

This new single may not set the world on fire, but we should all know that Kat DeLuna is a Pop force to be reckoned with!

New Video Alert - The Wanted - Lightning

UK Boy band The Wanted have premiered the video for the follow up single to Glad You Came from their yet-untitled upcoming album. The track is the up tempo hit Lightning, that see’s the boys with a few more clothes than we like or are used to, dancing around at a festival/BMX rally! We wonder what they could possibly mean by *ahem* "playing with lightning"

The boys are only just making an attack on the Australian charts, however doing well in the U.S and back home in blighty!

Check out the video below, buy their tracks on iTunes or to see naked pictures of the boys click here!

Friday Song! - Nelly

As the weather starts to heat up here in Oz, its been a sweaty day here in the SCP HQ Office, which lead us to a heated discussion about songs that refer to being hot or getting hot and bothered! Tracks discussed were Katy Perry's Hot N Cold, Sneaky Sound System's - You're Hot, Girls Aloud - Long Hot Summer and of course our secret lover Luciana's I'm Still Hot!
However as the aircon had broken down in the office today, it felt only right, that Nelly's Hot In Here was our Friday Song this week.
Have an great weekend everyone!
Love SCP crew!

New Video Alert - Justice Crew - Sexy And You Know It

The brand new single & video for Justice Crew SEXY AND YOU KNOW IT is out today!

The video has shot to #2 on iTunes and is easily their best video to date, showing off the boys personalities and relying less heavily on structured choreography.

Even if you’re not a JC fan it’s a fun clip, set in a circus arena with no audience! Hmm! Well its great dancing!

Also see below link for a great Behind The Scenes piece from the filming if you haven’t already!

Movie Review! One Day - Anne Hathaway Vs Liam Gallagher

After reading the novel One Day which traces besties (with the odd drunken benefit) Emma and Dex over the same day each year for 20 years the Minister Of Movies was struck with a sweet nostalgia for Cool Britannia and wanted to step straight back into her doc martens and spin around Camden to a cool Brit Pop Soundtrack and pretend it was 1998 all over again… but this review is not all about me. I digress.

One Day was a hit novel for author David Nicholls and now it's been made into a film featuring Amercia's Sweetheart - Anne Hathaway and previously unknown hottie Jim Sturgess.

'Our Anne' as she would be known if she convincingly nailed her 'Ooop North' accent is endearing in the lead role of Emma, even if she thinks that sounding like you're from Manchester means dropping the odd 'Fook' and 'I'm raaaaallly raaaaallly droooooooonk' in-between dropping back into Austen English every now and then.

Funnily enough, despite being the lead character, Emma seems to play second fiddle to Jim Sturgess' Dex who perfects being an occasional text book asshole with dimples to die for. During Dex's stint as a 'Largin It' TV presenter he bears an uncanny resemblance to late 90's TV and Radio lothario Johnny Vaughn - just like him Dex plays the faux Cockney geezer to a tee despite being from an incredibly posh background.

It's a gorgeous on off love affair between the two which follows them from being boozed up ambitious uni students in Edinburgh in the idealistic 80's, to coked up twenty somethings in London in the roaring 90's to tee -total semi- adults in the directionless naughties.

Life takes some genuinely hysterical turns, and also some truly tragic twists in this film about fate, fidelity and responsibility and despite each of the characters flaws, they're likeable enough for you to be genuinely gunning for them to finally get together in the end.

Go and see it with your own 'friend with benefits' and see how the conversation flows afterwards. You'll know if you've got a keeper after their reaction from sitting through this flick!

A completely engrossing winner, even if Anne Hathaway accent sounds more like Elizabeth Bennet than Liam Gallagher.

Epic Florence & the Machine!

Florence & The Machine was the best band we saw last year at Splendour In the Grass with Lungs being THE soundtrack to 2010.

So SCP was super excited to hear her What The Water Gave Me pumping from our stereo thanks to those kinds folks at Triple J

Produced by Paul Epworth (most famous for creating the multi layered genius of Adele's Rolling In the Deep) and recorded at The Beatle's Abbey Road Studios, What the Water Gave Me would have Mr Lennon skipping with joy with the musical wizardry that Miss Florence Welch has turned out.

What the Water Gave Me features an epic chorus and Florence's trademark bellow, which Flo fans have become accustomed to. Hair raising stuff of the most pleasurable kind and following on from the same medieval Kate Bush-esque stylings on Lungs.

'Epic' is a word that's used too indiscriminately these days … 'Epic Fail', 'Epic Embarrassment' etc etc, yawn, yawn.

But if you want to understand how it relates to something other than 'Fail' forwards, goal of the week and tampon ads, check out the track here.

HOT New Single Alert - Rihanna - We Found Love

Announced just a few days ago and the worst kept secret over these last few week’s Rihanna has debuted her new single We Found Love produced by UK Dj/producer Calvin Harris on the UK hit radio station Capital FM. This is the first single taken off her sixth studio album, which works out about one album every year RiRi has been in the pop charts!

Check out the new track now…

New Video Alert – Cody Simpson - On My Mind

Australia’s version of Justin Bieber is 14 year old Gold Coast born, blonde, blue eyed, teenage girl pop crush, Cody Simpson. He’s had a hit or two over the past few years, most notably iYiYi with Flo-Rida, but with his new EP Coast to Coast seems a much more grown up effort.

His new single and video On My Mind shows that he’s really grown up too – though it hard to believe he’s only 14! It has a bit of a Westlife feel to it, catchy pop beat with synthesised vocals as is the trend lately. Much less of a pop icon than the Beebs, but still popular with the girls in the US, and doing quite well in Europe at the moment as well, we’ll be seeing more of Cody soon i’m sure!

R.E.M Announce break up!!

American rock band R.E.M. have announced their break up today after being together in the music business for 31 years.

Since 1980 were one of the first popular alternative rock bands, R.E.M. gained early attention due to Peter Buck's ringing, arpeggiated guitar style and Michael Stipe's indecipherable lyrics. R.E.M. releasing its their first single, Radio Free Europe, in 1981. Since then singer Stipe, guitarist Buck, bassist Mike Mills and drummer Bill Berry, have delivered hit after hit, including Losing My Religion, Nightswimming, Everybody Hurts and Man On The Moon,

Shocking their millions of fans worldwide, the band put out this official statement on their website:

"To our Fans and Friends: As R.E.M., and as lifelong friends and co-conspirators, we have decided to call it a day as a band. We walk away with a great sense of gratitude, of finality, and of astonishment at all we have accomplished. To anyone who ever felt touched by our music, our deepest thanks for listening."

Frontman Michael Stipe has confirmed that the split has been amicable "though it wasn't an easy decision to come to".

Stipe added:

"A wise man once said -- 'the skill in attending a party is knowing when it's time to leave.' We built something extraordinary together. We did this thing. And now we're going to walk away from it. I hope our fans realize this wasn't an easy decision; but all things must end, and we wanted to do it right, to do it our way."

Just releasing their last studio album Collapse Into Now back in March 2011, many fans, like SCP will be saddened by this news.

In honor of the band who had released fifteen albums through their time together, we salute you and everything you have done together. Good luck with your next adventures gents. Love SCP. xx

So J.Lo uses her dance moves to hypnotise and control the crowd of men, in what seems like the female version of the Lynx effect!
